LBH Under 11s vs Whitstable

On Sunday 24 August we fielded two under 11 sides playing matches against Whitstable, both at Burberry Lane.

The Whitstable A team ran up an impressive total of 163 for 4. The match was reduced to 18 overs a side because of rain. Adam Chappell-Tay took two wickets and Matthew Connell and George Todd one each. LBH fielding could have been sharper in the early stages.

In reply, Alex Kidd (27) and James Clarke (24 not out) made a spirited attempt to keep up with the required run rate. Paul Morgan captained the side and was not out 24 at the end, enjoying licence to play shots. LBH finished on 107 for 2. The full side in batting order was:

Alex Kidd, James Clarke, Zach Osborne, Paul Morgan (Capt), Sam Smith, Nick Prime (w/k), Matthew Mustill, Adam Hunt, Adam Chappell-Tay, Matthew Connell and George Todd

The B team played a very close pairs match. LBH batted first and scored a creditable 291. Tight bowling and enthusiastic fielding kept the Whitstable run rate down.

Whitstable needed 3 off the last over and got them with some good running. John Goodwin played for Whitstable to even up the numbers. He made all the difference by taking two wickets! The full team was:

Zach Evenden (Capt), Oscar Willis, Alex Smith, Henry Buckland, Harry Todd, Edward Hatfield, Annys Fearon, Rory Brummit-Evans, Joshua Aucamp and James Newman.

Well done to everyone for two good matches despite the autumnal conditions.

LBH Under 10s vs Addington Village CC

Last week an LBH Under 10 side took the field and comfortably defeated Addington Village CC U10s in a pairs match.

In fact, it was very one sided, and LBH players continued to play hard without losing their concentration against young and very weak opponents.

Rowan Hawkins was out twice in the first four overs but after that we did not lose another wicket and amassing 393-2 (387 net) in the process.

In reply AVCC were never in the hunt.  Their first run off the bat came in the 8th over.  They lost 12 wickets and only scored 9 runs in their total of 249-12 (177 net) in 20 overs with extras contributing 40 runs.

There were notable, hard hitting batting performances from Henry Buckland, Tom Lennard and Paul Morgan.

Oscar Willis running between wickets and in the field was sharp.

Andrew Brown did well with the bat and ball in his hard ball match debut.

Henry Buckland returned figures of 3-6 and held on to a good caught and bowled chance.

Rohan Hawkins bowled accurately for 2-0, and so did Adam Chappell-Tay with 2-3.

We are also very grateful to David Sear who took over management of the Team for this match. Perhaps the first of many!

Here's the scorecard:

LBH Under 11s vs Bexley Challenge Match

On Saturday 26th July it was a different story for the LBH Under 11s in a 30 overs a side Challenge match against a well organised and skilful Bexley team.

Bexley made 183 for 8. The total included 58 extras, with too many no balls and some lax fielding and field placing. Alex Kidd took 2 for 11 and Monte McCague 2 for 15. Sam Smith also took two wickets but was expensive.

With the bat, several players made a start but could not go on to play the long innings required. Alex Kidd was well caught on 12. James Leggett made 10. Adam Hunt (9) and James Clarke (12) repaired some of the damage. James applied himself particularly well. Nick Prime made a quick 12 at the end to show what was possible.

LBH finished on 111, beaten by a better team.

Our team in batting order was: Paul Morgan, Alex Kidd, George Duggan, James Leggett, Zach Osborne, Monte McCague, Adam Hunt, James Clarke, Sam Smith, Nick Prime and Adam Chappell-Tay.

LBH Under 11s vs The Mote 25th July

The under 11's completed their seventh straight win in the Weald of Kent League and took the title on Friday 25 July.

Playing on the main square at the Mote, LBH batted first and scored 312, losing just two wickets. George Davis was outstanding with 31 and Sam Smith continued his improvement with 16.

The Mote were restricted to 214, losing 8 wickets in the process. Dominic Smith was impressive in taking 1 for 2. Matthew Mustill, George Davis, Nick Prime, Sam Smith and Adam Chappell-Tay each took a wicket. James Clarke took two wickets, with the help of fine catches by Matthew Mustill and Nick Prime.

Adam Chappell-Tay and Matthew Mustill were playing their first league matches and George Todd only his second. They all looked the part.

Congratulations to everyone who played in the 2008 LBH Under 11 sides.  It's an outstanding achievement to win all League matches!
