Leeds and Broomfield Cricket Club is currently in the fourth year (of a likely 5) of its 'Chance to shine' programme.
Every week during terms 5 and 6, the Club arranges for Coaches to go to six primary Schools and deliver a structured cricket coaching session in line with the agreements that are in place.
Part of the formal agreement that's in place between the Club and the Cricket Foundation, which supplies the cash for the 'Chance to shine' programme, is that we must hold inter-school competitions and Festival events during the Summer.
The idea is to forge a link between the school and the Club with the intention of bringing in new young players to the Club and to keep them playing cricket for years to come.

'Chance to shine' Girls Festival event 26th May 2009
As part of the Club's commitments to the 'Chance to shine' program in 2009, there was a special girls-only event held at the Burberry Lane ground, Leeds on 26th May 2009.
In this very busy cricketing year we were very lucky indeed to have with us Kent and England's Test and One Day International player, Lydia Greenway. Lydia was part of the England team that had won the ICC Women's World Cup in March 2009 and we were really privileged when she brought with her the trophy itself.

Inter Schools Competition 14th May 2009 at Burberry Lane
The first of the Club's Inter-school events was held at Burberry Lane on 14th May with a total of 9 teams from Roseacre, Hollingbourne, Harrietsham, Holy Family and Leeds and Broomfield Primary Schools.
The format was three groups of three teams with each team playing the others in their group.
At the end, the team considered the overall winner was from Hollingbourne who had the same number of points as two others but scored more runs.
