LBJ Under 15s vs Bexleyheath - NKJL - 19th July 2009

At last a match that saw both good performances with both bat and ball.

LBH Under 15s lost the toss and were put in the field. We started very well indeed and really restricted Bexleyheath but once again we were shown the benefit of a patient innings with their captain scoring 57 not out. Nonetheless we did well to restrict them to 109 with Dan bowling 4 overs for just 6 runs.

We then put in our best bowling performance of the season with both openers scoring unbeaten 50s to see us home to a 10 wicket victory and a fantastic end to the season.

LBJ vs Bexley - North Kent Junior League match - 5th July 2009

A very close game with a disappointing outcome sums up this week’s North Kent match.

LBJ won the toss and choose to field on a very damp wicket after the night’s heavy rain. Two dropped catches early on prevented us from getting the rewards the bowlers has earned. Save for this, the performance in the field was very good. We gave a way too many extras and due to wides which saw us bowl two extra overs. Nevertheless we kept Bexley to 100 a target which was eminently attainable.

The LBJ innings started well and they reached 35 in the 7th over before losing the first wicket. Runs then started to become harder to obtain due to a good fielding performance from Bexley. Two suicidal run outs then cost dearly and as the run rate slowed we started to show signs of panic when in reality the target was still reachable.

Josh Robins produced an intelligent innings which moved LBJ to within touching distance of the required target but too many wickets were lost too quickly with the last 5 falling for just 10 runs.

LBJ Under 15s vs Beckenham - NKJL 28th June 2009

Sadly the LBJ batting let them down and they just did not score enough runs.

It is hard to point to any single reason for the failures other than to hold our hands up and say "we did not play well".

Poor shot selection and a lack of application meant that with the exception of Joe Millen and Sam Whittaker LBJ just did not bat well enough. With only 96 on the board it was always going to struggle but they did put up a good fight and for quite some time remained in the match. However a good partnership for Beckenham saw them across the line with two overs to spare.
